Transitioning to the Recovery Phase

As of early 2026, disaster management efforts in Sumatra have largely transitioned into the recovery phase, although certain regions remain under emergency response status. HFI emphasized the need to map member activities to identify synergy opportunities, ensuring a more significant impact on affected communities.

Romi Ardiansyah, Chairperson of HFI, expressed his hope for sustained contribution toward the Sumatra response. He highlighted several priorities:

  1. Meeting basic needs during the transition phase.
  2. Strengthening coordination and synergy with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
  3. Providing tactical coordination mechanisms.
  4. Following up on Joint Needs Assessments (JNA) and Joint Response Plans.

Complementing this, Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation, stressed the importance of resource optimization, mapping aid coverage, and increasing accountability to accelerate the recovery process.

Key Strategic Agreements

During the workshop, HFI members reached a consensus on three primary points:

  1. Regional Leads: Appointing persons in charge (PIC) for the most affected provinces, specifically Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
  2. Communication Hub: Establishing a dedicated coordination media platform for these regional leads.
  3. Recovery Programs: Developing comprehensive recovery sectors, including Education, Market Access, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH/AMPL), Health, Psychosocial Support Services (LDP), and both food and non-food Logistics.

The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on cluster-based coordination. HFI members are encouraged to take active roles in disaster management clusters and sub-clusters at the district and city levels, ensuring that interventions remain aligned with the specific needs of each local area.
