Humanitarian Synergy: HFI Supports PHDI Social Services in Banda Aceh

JAKARTA – Humanitarian Forum Indonesia (HFI) is supporting a series of social service activities initiated by Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia (PHDI) through the National Committee for the Celebration of the Holy Day of Nyepi, Saka New Year 1948. This activity is a tangible manifestation of the spirit of tolerance and interfaith collaboration in Indonesia.

This year, the Nyepi celebration is not only focused on religious rituals but also on humanitarian actions reaching the wider community. As part of the series leading up to the main event, HFI was requested to support social services held in disaster-affected areas in Aceh Province on February 25–26, 2026.

A total of 80 people, consisting of committee members and volunteers from various religious backgrounds, were involved in the activity, including healthcare professionals such as general practitioners, dentists, and specialists. This humanitarian action targeted communities affected by floods and landslides in need of post-disaster recovery. The activities were centered at Lanud Iskandar Muda and included health services as well as the distribution of basic necessity aid. A total of 500 residents received health services during the event. Additionally, 750 food packages, 700 hijabs, 700 children’s clothing items, 75 adult clothing items, and 200 PHBS (Clean and Healthy Living Behavior) kits were distributed to the affected community.

The Executive Director of HFI stated that this participation is a real embodiment of HFI’s vision to bridge interfaith humanitarian values. “We deeply appreciate the invitation from the 1948 Nyepi National Committee. This initiative proves that humanity knows no religious boundaries. Through this collaboration, we show that while our brothers and sisters in Bali prepare to celebrate their holy day, they also care deeply about the health of our brothers and sisters in Aceh. This is the true face of Indonesia,” said the HFI Leader.

The technical implementation in the field was overseen by HFI representatives based in Banda Aceh. This synergy further strengthens the solid local partnership between faith-based humanitarian agencies under the auspices of HFI. The HFI representative in Aceh emphasized the importance of a collective response in helping communities in post-disaster areas. “The opportunity to represent HFI in the Nyepi National Committee’s agenda is an honor. Conducting social services in Aceh, a region with a strong Islamic identity, to support the holy day agenda of our Hindu brothers and sisters is a very powerful message of peace, as reflected in the theme carried by the committee for this activity, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ which means one earth, one family,” concluded Turmizi Ali, HFI representative.

“Interfaith collaboration in Aceh is proof that in the face of disaster, we stand as one large Indonesian family,” said the General Chairperson of the 2026 National Dharmasanti Committee, Air Vice Marshal (Ret.) I Made Susila Adnyana. After the series of social actions in Aceh are completed, all these activities will culminate in the peak of the Holy Day of Nyepi Saka New Year 1948 through the National Dharmasanti (National Simakrama) event.

The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Taman Werdhi Budaya Art Centre, Denpasar, Bali. The synergy between the Nyepi National Committee and HFI is expected not only to provide a significant health impact for the people of Aceh but also to further strengthen social cohesion and brotherhood among religious communities across the country.
